A ghast tear is a mob drop that is dropped by ghasts when they die. It can be used in potions and also high tech electronics.
Ghast tears are quite hard to get at the start of the game but if you can get something like a jetpack (Module for Power Armor) and an electric bow you should be fine. But even then ghast tears are still pretty rare and should be used wisely.
